NOTICE OF OPEN BOOK ASSESSMENT EXAMINATION

 

Pursuant to Sec. 70.45 of Wis. Statues the assessment roll for the Year 2010 assessment will be open for examination on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Town Hall located at 183 155th Street, Star Prairie, Wisconsin from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Open Book session provides property owners with the opportunity to informally discuss their assessments with the Town Assessor. Instructional material about the assessment and Board of Review procedures will be available at that time for information on how to file an objection and the Board of Review procedures under Wisconsin Law.

 

NOTICE OF BOARD OF REVIEW

Town of Alden, Board of Review will meet on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Alden Town Hall located at 183 155th Street, Star Prairie, Wisconsin, for the purpose of calling the Board of Review into session, pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes Sec. 70.47 (1).

No person will be allowed to contest the assessment at board of review if the person has refused a reasonable request by certified mail of the assessor to view the property.

After the first meeting of the board of review and before the board’s final adjournment, no person scheduled to appear before the board of review may contact or provide information to a member of the board except at a session of the board.

Persons objecting to their assessment must advise the board of review 48 hours in advance of their hearing if they are asking to remove on of the members of the board; and if so which member is being asked to be removed; and the person’s estimate of the length of time the hearing on the person’s objection will take.

An objector must specify in writing, the objector’s estimate of the value of the property and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate. (This should be written on the objection form filed in advance of the hearing. More on when the objection should be filed later in this article).

If the assessor used the income method to value the property of a person (such as an apartment house or retail property), but the property owner refused to supply the assessor with information about income and expenses of the property, the property owner may not object before the board of review to the assessment.
